Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?I offer personalized in-person birth support, virtual education and support for those outside my in-person radius, birth education, and
a-la-carte planning sessions.
What does a doula actually do?As soon as you hire me, I’m here for your questions, concerns, hard days, celebrations, and milestones!
Immediately, you’ll get a list of my favorite resources to begin you’re own research. We will work together on education and implementation, mindset work, advocacy skills, learning hospital policies, coping strategies for labor, birth options and preferences, backup plans - all of it catered to your and your values for this experience of bringing your baby into the world.
What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?A midwife is responsible for your and your baby’s health and well-being throughout pregnancy and birth.
A doula helps educate you and your partner and supports your emotional well-being during pregnancy and birth.
In other words, a midwife will be checking your baby’s heart beat while your doula is holding your hands, squeezing your hips, or reminding you to breathe. Consider her your birth bestie from the day she’s hired.
What areas do you serve in South Central Kentucky and Middle Tennessee?I serve about an hour radius from Bowling Green, KY, so I cover the towns of Scottsville, Franklin, Russellville, Smiths Grove, Park City, Cave City, Glasgow, Auburn, and Morgantown in KY.
In TN, I serve Portland, White House, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Goodlettsville, Springfield, Westmoreland, Hermitage, Whites Creek, and Nashville.
Do you support hospital and home births?Absolutely. I believe a mom should be able to birth where she feels safest and most supported, so whether that is home or hospital, I can be there.
What is your ideal client?Whether a first timer or more experienced mom, typically, my clients are seeking an autonomous, unmedicated birth, but are aware that birth is unpredictable, so they understand the value of having a doula on their birth team. They are usually planners and have a vision for how they want things to go and want to make sure they have a team in place to advocate for their voice when they’re preoccupied with laboring.
What makes you different?I am very attuned to people (a skill sharpened by my roles in bands). I’m able to anticipate needs well, and I don’t mind asking the hard questions, even to my clients. I can lovingly challenge you without pressuring or making you feel guilty for your choices, even if they don’t match what mine would be.
The unique way that I work with clients is to identify the values you want woven throughout the experience rather than focusing only on outcomes, so that no matter what happens, you can look back on your birth and see it in a positive light, knowing your voice was heard and your choices were honored.
When should I hire a doula in South Central Kentucky or Middle Tennessee? It is never too early to find your ideal doula, as schedules can fill up months in advance. Some women hire me at 5 weeks, some at 35. Just as it is never too early to build your birth team, it’s never too late to inquire about it either.
If you are on the fence, it doesn’t hurt to book a consult. It’s free, and you may leave the call feeling great about whatever decision you make.
Will you "replace" my partner during labor? No, I do not replace your partner. I will educate and empower them to fully step into their role, whatever that needs to look like for them and what they are capable of. Having a doula doesn’t replace the importance of your partner, but rather allows them to be more present with you and less worried about advocating or having all the answers.
